Testimonial Tjeerd: continuous self-reflection
Tjeerd Harkema (23) was busy with self-reflection during his year at AIESEC. This felt good, but in the delusion of the day he was less busy with it. Through a former fellow board member he came in contact with High Potential Academy.
Tjeerd currently lives in Amsterdam and is completing his Master’s degree in International Development Studies. He combined his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in Nijmegen with, among other things, a part-time board of AIESEC. After completing his bachelor’s degree he ventured into a full-time board position at AIESEC Amsterdam.
Tjeerd came in contact with High Potential Academy through a former board member. At that time she was a potential student herself and busy with the trajectory. Through her experience, he became enthusiastic about the concept and got in touch with the Community Manager. The contact was professional and in the first conversation very personal already. Two months after the first contact it was the right timing to start:
“The project at High Potential Academy continues the role that I had at AIESEC before: an external platform that encourages, stimulates and monitors self-reflection. Moreover, High Potntial Academy broadens my view on the job market. Both the employees and fellow Potentials have helped me enormously in my self-development and orientation on the job market. The 1-1 coaching, training sessions and events fit seamlessly with my needs during my master year. The atmosphere among the employees and fellow-Potentials is good during the sessions because of the loose communication and playful interaction. This is extremely conducive to the involvement of all parties”.
Tjeerd is graduating this year. When he started the course, Tjeerd focused on a career within the national government. He now realizes that there are more opportunities to make a career within the public domain and is currently weighing up his options. “When you commit, you keep moving.”
